Ms. Priyanka Singh, who has been Associate Director of College Counseling and Academic Guidance since the beginning of last year, is moving to San Diego to be closer to her family and will not return next fall.

She announced her departure in an email at 4 pm this afternoon to students in her cohort.  Students are split into two cohorts in junior year, one having Ms. Singh as their counselor and the other with Mr. Jordan Moss, Director of College Counseling & Academic Advising.

“I will continue to work with you all through the end of June and you are welcome to meet with me until my departure,” Ms. Singh wrote in the email, sent at 4 p.m. today. “The new counselor stepping into my role will be your assigned college counselor and I will help facilitate a smooth transition by meeting with them to share any relevant information about your process.”

I’ve deeply cherished my time at Shalhevet and I’m grateful to each of you for welcoming me into the Firehawk community.

She said she will still be writing the counselor recommendation letters for this year’s junior class who are a part of her cohort even though she will not be at school.

Ms. Singh, who is commonly known to students by her first name, joined Shalhevet in the fall of 2021, taking the job of Mr. Eli Shavalian when he became Director of the Department in 2020.

“I’ve enjoyed every opportunity to connect with you all and although I am sad our time together is nearing the end, please know that you are in incredible hands with Jordan and the next counselor to join the college counseling department,” wrote Ms. Singh.

“I’ve deeply cherished my time at Shalhevet and I’m grateful to each of you for welcoming me into the Firehawk community,” Ms. Singh wrote.

Ms. Singh and Mr. Moss saw multiple students admitted to Ivy League and other competitive schools this year. They have also both been teaching regular classes to both juniors and seniors this year as part of a new college counseling class, initiated by Mr. Moss.

A replacement for Ms. Singh has not yet been announced.

A full farewell article about Ms. Singh will be posted in the coming weeks.
