Girls basketball advances to CIF quarterfinals with win over Flintridge Sacred Heart

LEAD: No. 11 junior Arielle Grossman was the Firehawk’s top scorer Monday night with 26 points, including seven threes.

The Firehawk girls basketball team defeated Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy Tologs 55-37 in the Shalhevet gym last night to advance from Round 2 to the CIF Division 4AA Quarterfinals. 

Tomorrow the team is set to take on Jordan High School of Long Beach at 7 p.m., also on the home court. 

Monday’s game started competitively with Shalhevet leading 12-7 after the first quarter and 24-22 at halftime. 

The team expanded its lead in the second half and led 44-28 at the end of the third quarter and again in the fourth, ending the game winning by 18 points. 

Shalhevet scored 12 points in the first and the second quarters, 20 points in the third and 11 in the fourth. 

Junior Arielle Grossman led the team with 26 points, including seven threes. Fellow junior Yalee Schwartz had 23 points. 

Starting yesterday for the Firehawks were senior Talia Tibi, juniors Arielle Grossman and Yalee Schwartz, and sophomores Mikayla Namvar and Audrey Soleymani. 

The Tologs scored seven points in the first quarter, 15 in the second, six in the third and four in the fourth. 

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy went 15-13 during the regular season, including  4-4 in the Sunshine League coming in third place.

The boys varsity team ended its season two days earlier with a loss Saturday night to La Mirada in Round 2 play.
