Loss doesn’t dampen spirits as Dodger and Red Sox fans watch Game 2 of World Series together after school
Everyone had a chance to cheer – at least for a while – as LA fell to the Boston Red Sox in Boston, falling behind in the series 2-0

Nineteen students and faculty members gathered in the cafeteria to watch Game 2 of the World Series Wednesday night, but for the Dodger fans who were there, it turned disappointing as their team was defeated by the Boston Red Sox 4-2.
On Oct. 24, the mixed group of LA and Boston fans watched the action while munching on chicken wings from LA Burger Bar. Though the game’s outcome wasn’t as sweet, when it was over, junior Adam Tizabi still had hope.
“We just gotta keep our eye on the ball and make contact, because we have been striking out a lot recently,” said Adam. “And with that, I think we can win the World Series.”
The Red Sox scored early, but the Dodgers scored and scored again, taking the lead. With the bases loaded and two outs in the fifth inning, Dodger coach Dave Roberts pulled pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu from the game. Veteran reliever Ryan Madson came in, walked the first runner, and allowed additional hits to bring the game to its final score.
From the beginning of the evening, though, allegiances were divided and tension could be felt in the room. Sophomore Sam Rubin was looking for a win.
“Everyone playing well and ending up with a win at the end of the day,” Sam said.
But the Red Sox got things started quickly with an RBI single by second baseman Ian Kinsler in the second inning. Rabbi Yagil Tsaidi, who was born in Springfield, Mass., near Boston, was extremely enthusiastic about Boston getting on the scoreboard first.

Rabbi Tsaidi’s joy did not last long, as Matt Kemp hit an RBI sacrifice fly which tied the game, and Dodgers fans present cheered in celebration. When Yasiel Puig hit an RBI single later in the inning, the Dodger fans in the cafeteria only got louder. Dodgers were up 2-1.
The following inning, Dodgers starting pitcher Ryu was taken out after loading the bases. As soon as Madson got into the game, he gave up a walk that scored a run, tying the game and leaving the Dodger fans in shock. Making things even worse for them, on the very next pitch, Red Sox outfielder and star player J.D. Martinez hit a two-RBI single, making the game 4-2, the game’s final score.
Although the Dodgers lost, many said they enjoyed watching the game with other Dodgers fans at Shalhevet, including junior Adam Tizabi.
“It was nice to see other students who support the same team as you come together,” Adam said.
With the Dodgers down 2-0 in the series after Wednesday’s game, the road to victory is much more tough. The Dodgers will have to win four out of the next five games in order to win the World Series.
Game 3 will be played tonight in Los Angeles starting at 5 P.M., and Game 4 will be played Saturday at the same time. That means most Shalhevet baseball fans will not know the result of Game 3 — or most of Game 4 — until after Havdalah.
