The following e-mail was sent to parents today by Mr. Roy Danovitch, Acting Principal of General Studies:
Dear Shalhevet Parents,
It is with great excitement that we welcome Dr. Katya Gudis to the Shalhevet community. Dr. Gudis will be joining our faculty as a teacher for both 11th grade Biology and 12th grade Physiology.
Dr. Gudis has extensive experience studying and teaching Science, both in the US and abroad. Dr. Gudis studied Biology during her undergraduate and graduate studies at UCLA and Cal State Northridge. After teaching in both Los Angeles and Japan, she completed her PhD at Nippon Medical School in Japan, where she conducted clinical research, medical science, and published numerous articles in international medical journals. Her dissertation focused on the presence of certain enzymes in gastric tissue. During her time in Japan, Dr. Gudis also founded a Karate school, or “dojo”!
Before joining the Shalhevet faculty, Dr. Gudis worked as a Science Teacher for the Pacific Center for Creative Learning, and The RFK Community Schools in Los Angeles. In our conversations with Dr. Gudis, we were impressed by her commitment to project-based learning, and the unique and collaborative lessons she uses to bring Science to life for young students. As a Scientist herself, Dr. Gudis is also deeply passionate about the field itself, and the joy of discovery and scientific inquiry.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Gudis to our school. We trust that you’ll find her to be a wonderful educator for your child, and a valuable addition to our teaching faculty.
Sincerely,
Roy Danovitch
