Dear Shalhevet families,

We are writing with an update for you regarding classes next week.

We continue to work closely with the LA Department of Public Health as well as guidance from our Medical Task Force and our school posek, YU Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Jeremy Wieder.  Please know that we don’t take closing lightly.  In his conversations with us, Rabbi Wieder emphasized that we must act per the guidance of the local health authorities and at the same time reminded us of the costs of keeping our kids home when they are not directly threatened by COVID 19 – namely diminished Talmud Torah and general learning, as well as a lack of socialization.

All that being said, we will be closing for next week and moving fully to online classes on Monday morning.  As we mentioned, we don’t take closing lightly, and we’ll be reevaluating at the end of next week. The pace at which the circumstances around COVID-19 have developed has been rapid and consistently changing and we want to make decisions with as much information as possible.

On Sunday, we will be sending out a schedule for our online learning.  Please watch your email inboxes and your Schoology messages.  Please note that our teachers will be using two platforms — Google Hangout which our students already used this past Monday, and Zoom.  To that end, please see the attached two tutorials for students that we have prepared for both of these platforms so that you can be prepared for Monday.

Thank you,

Rabbi Ari Segal
