Shalhevet’s boys flag football team won its eighth straight game Sunday with a 34-6 demolition of crosstown rival YULA Boys High School at LACES field.
YULA’s star player, Noam Posner, missed the first quarter of play. The Firehawks capitalized early, scoring two touchdowns to go up 14-0. Posner’s return didn’t make a big enough difference as Shalhevet outscored YULA 20-6 the rest of the way.
Firehawk quarterback Jacob Dauer delivered another masterpiece behind a stout offensive line performance. Dauer distributed the ball widely, over the course of the game throwing touchdown passes to Adam Kaufler, Eitan Halpert, Max Helfand and Jeremy Glouberman. Dauer reached the end zone himself on a long scramble. Kaufler and Tom Amzalag punished the Panthers’ defense on the ground.
The Firehawk defense showcased shut down the Panther offense, containing Posner, perhaps the most mobile quarterback in the Coastal league. The cornerbacks and safeties covered the YULA receivers, and sack master Boaz Willis took down the quarterback again.
In addition, the Firehawks intercepted the YULA quarterbacks four times. Austin Marshak, YULA’s starter, threw one pass that was picked off by Shahevet’s Hootie Kessler. David Hanelin delivered another Panther turnover into the hands of Elon Glouberman. When Posner arrived at the game, he took over at quarterback and ended the game with a pair of interceptions to Kessler and Seffi Arnan.
The Firehawks (8-0) play at LACES on Tuesday against 3-time defending league champion Crossroads at 4:30 PM. Shalhevet grinded out a win 27-25 against Crossroads in its season opener in the most competitive game of the season so far, which featured a series of big plays and dramatic game changing plays.
