Zachary Slomovic: The End of an Allergy
“Around January of 2019 I was on a school trip with Maimonides and I had some sort of bread that had peanut oil on it. Since two months after that I have been doing treatment on my nut allergies and everyday, twice a day, I eat two things that I’m allergic to, to make me more tolerant. My body is built to hate it — when i eat it i want to just gag and i dont think ill ever eat it — but it relieves me of the fear of going into a restaurant and not being able to order, or having to carry around this big red thing that everyone thinks is a pencil case all the time. It has worked insanely well — much more than we thought it was going to. Now everyday I eat 2 peanuts along with about 20 other varieties of nuts. The doctor said I should be clear of it before my next birthday, which is mid-September.
After I finish the treatment, I [will] limit what i eat because i haven’t been able to try new food for the past 2 years just in case it causes something and screws the whole treatment up. And it wouldn’t be fun to restart. So I will definitely be able to change things up, which I’m excited about.”
