Lehava Segal: Immersive escapism

I started playing Dungeons and Dragons because somebody I knew played it. I did my research and became completely obsessed.

It’s imagination combined with some rules. I personally like fantasy books, and it’s like creating a fantasy book while living inside a fantasy book. You create your own character and decide your race, your class, and stats and some other things. If one playing style doesn’t catch your interest there is probably another playing style that does. It’s usually a team playing a game — it’s best when you have three players minimum and a DM — Dungeon Master. It’s like the most overpowered video game ever.

I prefer playing Dungeons and Dragons to hanging out with other people most of the time — even though D&D is a lot of hanging out with other people — because it is much more interesting. It is very immersive and also can be used as escapism. If you can either go on a murder spree, kill a dragon, take all its treasure and have glory and fame, or go to the park or do your homework, I think the better choice is obvious.
