Yael Schechter: Making People Laugh and Smile

“People have always told me that I’m funny. I’m in ninth grade. I do improv and stand-up comedy. I learn at camps. You just audition, and if you get in you perform improv. You get a piece of paper and then you write four sections: world, personal things, things that you just find funny, and things that you don’t like. Then you write things in each of those sections that could potentially create a skit. That’s where you get your ideas, ‘cause it’s easier to brainstorm. I had this idea for a skit where a cop is interviewing a criminal and the interrogator was more nervous. I was just writing down something that I thought could be funny. It ended up becoming one of the sketches we put in the show. I might be trying out for an advanced improv troupe in a few weeks because I like making people laugh and smile. It just makes me feel good when other people think I’m funny and all my hard work pays off.”
