Late-night email announces new head of school

Rabbi Ari Segal of Houston is expected to arrive at Shalhevet Aug. 1.
Rabbi Ari Segal of Houston is expected to arrive at Shalhevet Aug. 1.

An e-mail sent Thursday at 9 PM to the Shalhevet community named Rabbi Ari Segal as the next head of school. The email sent by Board of Directors president Larry Gill read as follows:

To the Community of Shalhevet Parents:

With great excitement, I am thrilled to announce that Rabbi Ari Segal has accepted the position of head of school for Shalhevet, commencing the fall of 2011.

Rabbi Segal is a genuine star in today’s constellation of Modern Orthodox Jewish educators and administrators.  He has served since 2007 as the head of school at the Robert M. Beren Academy in Houston, Texas, a Modern Orthodox K-12 school the mission of which is to provide an integrated Orthodox Jewish and college preparatory education in an atmosphere of excellence.  Prior to his tenure as head of school, Rabbi Segal served as the Judaic principal there from 2004 through 2006.  Before going to Houston, Rabbi Segal worked at Ramaz School in New York from 1998 through 2004 as the director of student programs, teacher, and head coach of the junior varsity basketball program.

With apologies for the very late notice, we will be holding a meet and greet session for all current Shalhevet parents, motza’ei Shabbat, Saturday night October 30th at 7:30 pm at Shalhevet in the Bet Midrash.   Rabbi Segal happens to be in town over that Shabbat, and although he is flying home that evening, he is excited to be available to introduce himself and to answer all the questions that time will permit.

I hope and trust that when you meet Rabbi Segal, you will share my genuine enthusiasm and anticipation as Shalhevet leaps forward into its next chapter at the forefront of the Modern Orthodox educational world.

Regards,

Larry Gill
