Checks make me feel important, but I like cash. Even the feeling of touching money is incredible to me. I live in a culture where money is very powerful, and I guess that just influenced me. It lets me buy stuff and stay safe. If I’m out and I need water, I don’t have to be thirsty since I have the exact thing I need to prevent that.

It feels nice when I earn cash. When I babysit, most of the time the kids are asleep and I’m just on my laptop. Just knowing that I have this — I’ll call it a type of resource — makes me feel a little good. I can then treat myself to a nice new pair of shoes or a hoodie. Either way, it’s a fun distraction and can sometimes give me a confidence boost. So if someone asks me what I love, money is for sure gonna be on my list. — Eliana Khoobian, 9th grade
